We are super excited to get to be in conversation with Eman Abdelhadi on Saturday the 5th of October, 3pm UK time!
I have been bowled over reading Everything for Everyone, An Oral History Of The New York Commune, 2052-2072, a text that to me grapples with critical utopianism, is fuelled by an inherent and important sense of radical hope whilst leaving room for grief and the essential work it too must do. If you want to read the text ahead of the event, please find it at your local independent bookstore, or if they don't have it I know that it's available at Pages of Hackney You don't need to read the book before the event, though of course we would love it if you got a copy as a result!
We will be using the book to stimulate wider discussions on futurity, making space for grief, hope as action, time-travel as crip activism and Palestinian liberation.
How to book?
Make your donation to either Crips for eSims for Gaza or UNWRA and take a screenshot of the confirmed donation. There is no set minimum amount for the donation - any amount and all donations will be deeply appreciated.
If you have a Google account you can send us a screenshot via this form, and if not just pop it in an email to theremotebody@gmail.com with the caption ‘Everything for Everyone Event’.
Your ticket will include access to the recording of the event. The event itself will include a Q&A, so please bring your questions!
What is this event?
This event is the first in a series of fundraisers that aim to do two things
1, raise funds for those facing genocide in Palestine, Congo and Sudan
2, explore and begin to expand the possibilities of what crip activism can be
We launch this series on a day of global action to create space and forum for the crip community and to centre those unable to take part in-person events. We borrow the title from Eman’s book Everything for Everyone for this first gathering, not for the convenience of it, but to set intention - this is the world we want to build. The world we want to work towards. Where there is everything for everyone. Join us in our first steps to do so and as we explore what liberation means and the importance of collective imagination as the action that will get us there.
Access
There are AI captions generated by Rev. Sadly, we haven’t been able to secure BSL interpretation as we are unfunded at present but we are working to rectify this in the future. We will send videos and transcripts of the event afterwards to ticket holders. If you have any questions about access specifics please get in touch with us at theremotebody@gmail.com
Why these fundraisers?
We have opted to choose one fundraiser ourselves and one nominated by our speaker. Our nominated charity is Crips for eSims for Gaza and Eman Abdelhadi’s is UNWRA. We have chosen Crips for eSims for Gaza as a fundraiser because of it's inherent reckoning with need for connection and communication alongside the organiser’s acknowledgement that the occupation of Palestine is a crip issue, with solidarity and action from the crip community being so important.
We would love, love, love to have you at this event. We want this to be the start of something generative and important, so if you can, please donate and please come. If you cannot donate but would like to come, as always, get in touch.
Thank you so much!
